Pennsylvania Partner Headcount Growth Holds Steady in the Middle of Peer Legal Markets

Pennsylvania growth lands in the middle tier of US legal markets of a similar size, having seen modest growth in Partner headcount at +1.1%.


While Pennsylvania outpaced regional neighbors like New Jersey (+0.6%), Ohio (+0.5%), and Massachusetts (-0.1%), it trailed just behind Illinois (+1.2%) and fell further behind high-growth markets like Georgia (+1.5%) and Florida (+2.8%).

Insurance Practice On the Decline, Whilst Labor & Employment Grows

Labor and Employment (+3.6%) and Tax (+2.8%) practices saw the highest percentage growth, while Insurance (-1.6%) experienced the steepest decline.

Movement Into and Out of Pennsylvania Has Been Close to Home

New Jersey accounted for the largest share of lateral partner departures from Pennsylvania, attracting 31% of the state's outbound talent. The state was also the primary source of incoming talent, with 7 partners relocating to Pennsylvania over the past year.


New York was the second most popular source and destination for Partners in Pennsylvania, with 6 moving out to New York and 4 moving in from the state.
