Lateral Partner retention is a vital metric for law firms. "Each year, law firms invest countless hours, money, and resources in their lateral hiring efforts" , so the success rate of each lateral hire has significant implications to any firm. Based on input from a number of firms, a key window for a lateral Partner hire is the first 3 years from joining. Within that timeframe, most firms will have a sense of whether the hire is going to be a success, or not! Using publicly-available data tracked by Pirical , we've analyzed how many of the lateral Partner hires made by AM Law 100 firms between 2020-2022 exited the firm within 3 years of joining.

  • What's the difference between Pirical Legal Professionals and Pirical On Demand?

    Pirical has two products that work together — unifying legal data to power the business of law.


    Pirical Legal Professionals (PLP) gives you the legal market: a database of 700,000+ legal professionals across 20,000+ law firms in 130+ countries, with mapped career histories, AI-extracted client work and 10 million+ verified connections. PLP is used primarily by recruitment, business development and competitive intelligence teams to source candidates and understand competitor strategy. 


    Pirical On Demand (POD) gives you your firm: it takes your private people data, cleans and refreshes it monthly, and lets you benchmark against anonymised peer firms. POD is used primarily by Finance, Strategy / CI and People & Operations teams to accurately benchmark against custom peer groups of law firms. 


    Many firms use both — PLP to understand the market, POD to understand themselves.

  • Where does Pirical's data come from and how is it kept accurate?

    Our public data set, which powers Pirical Legal Professionals (PLP), is drawn from a wide range of public sources, including law firm websites, law societies, legal news, deals data, rankings and social media.


    For our private data powered benchmarking tool, Pirical On Demand (POD), we ingest each customer firm's own people data. 


    Public profiles are continuously refreshed as new data is published; POD datasets are reconciled against your HRIS each month. Customers can flag corrections directly inside the platform, and our data team reviews every flag.
