Bristol Grew Faster Than Any Other Major UK Market
Bristol partner headcount grew
+4% over the last year, ahead of Edinburgh (+2%), London (+1%), and Leeds (+1%). Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow were all flat at

Burges Salmon holds the largest partnership in Bristol at 87 partners, and Knights PLC made 8 lateral hires, more than any other firm in the city.
Birketts grew fastest, from 10 partners to 16 (+60%). The firm opened its Bristol office in late 2024 and made 7 lateral hires over the year, level with Bevan Brittan.
DAC Beachcroft promoted
6 partners, more than any other Bristol firm, and boasted
+18% growth, the fastest of any firm in the city above 50 partners.
Insurance and IP Led Practice Growth, While Employment Was the Only Major Practice to Shrink
Insurance (+18%) and Intellectual Property (+10%) grew most over the last year among practices with more than 30 partners in Bristol. Employment (-4%) was the only practice at that scale to decline.
Litigation remains Bristol’s largest practice at
169 partners, and grew
+6% over the period.
London Was Both the Biggest Source and the Biggest Destination for Bristol Partner Moves
13 partners have made the journey from London to Bristol since July 2025, the largest number from any single city and 27% of all arrivals. Birmingham was second, sending 6.
London was also the most common destination for departing Bristol partners, with
8 arriving there over the year, accounting for
26% of all Bristol departures. Cardiff was second, taking

FirstGroup Was the Most Worked Client Across Bristol’s Top Ten Firms
FirstGroup appears on 27 public matters across three of Bristol’s ten highest ranked firms, more than any other client. The Crown Estate follows on 23 matters across two firms, then LDC on 17 across three.
Burges Salmon holds the single largest relationship, with FirstGroup on 22 public matters worked by 21 of the firm’s lawyers.
HSBC is the most widely held client here, appearing at five of the ten firms.
